In San Francisco they have a festival called The Day of the Dead. Which is a day to honor and remember those who have died in the past year. It starts just after dark. Everyone paints their faces like skeletons and dresses up in costume. There are drums and other bands playing in the streets.

We first went down to the park to set up our alter. We lite candles and placed offerings for the deceased. Then we wondered around the park and looked at other people’s alters and took pictures. They were all very beautiful. In the middle of a small gathering of people a women on stilts was dancing around to a beating drum.

There was a parade through the streets with a carriage and people dressed up in costume. Also a man and a women on stilts dancing together in the center of it all. Everyone was singing and carrying on. I was happy to be a part or it.

WO: Same day as The Golden Gate Bridge
